That this House notes with concern allegations of irregularities in the detention in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) of former presidential candidate and party leader Marie-Thérèse Nlandu, declared an Amnesty International Prisoner of Conscience, and in particular her ongoing trial before a military tribunal in contravention of Article 156 of the Constitution of the DRC and the principles set out by the African Commission on Human and People's Rights; notes that the tribunal could impose the death penalty, and has done so in the past; calls on the government of the DRC to guarantee that her case and those of her associates are treated fairly, quickly, and according to due process and international norms; expresses concern over reports of Marie-Thérèse Nlandu's deteriorating health and urges the Congolese authorities to allow her the necessary access to medical care; and calls on the British Government to raise her case at the highest level with the Congolese government.
